How to Say No! |
Seems like it should be easy to "just say no" but for most women it's not that simple. We don't want to hurt anyone feelings or come across as rude. But saying No incorrectly will leave an opening for a rebuttel.
| No, I don't have time right now |
Rebuttel: Well how about later? |
| I can't, I'm waiting for someone. |
Rebuttel: Well I'll wait with you. |
| Who said "No" had to come with an excuse or a reason. "No" can, and should, just be No. Here are the rules you should follow to effectivelly say No. |
Don't make excuses. |
Why you're saying No is not important. You don't owe him an explination. |
Don't lie. |
You'll get caught up in a lie and as we said before, you don't need to make excuses. |
Don't threaten. |
Statements like "Leave me alone or else . . ." will encourage a confirntation you don't want. |
Don't get personal. |
"You're weird and you're bugging me" is a personal slam. Stay away from this. |
Don't be insulting. |
I'd never go out with a lowlife, fat, ugly guy like you. Insults encourage negaive backlash you may not be prepared for. |
Be clear, don't leave gray areas. |
This is why you don't give excuses, true or made up. |
Don't use words like Maybe or Not now. |
This leaves an opening. "How about later?" |
| How should you say "No." |
| Be short, consise and make it about You, not about them. |
No. Thank you. |
| |
I don't want to talk to you. |
| |
I don't like it when anyone stands so close to me. |
| |
Women don't like it when Men do that. |
Believe it or not saying no correctly and effectivelly can take practice. If you're used to making excuses, as most women are, practice roleplaying with other girlfirends. If your practice partner gives you an excuse, counter act her excuse until she follows the rules on saying No. Stop each other when you slip up. Then practice saying No effectivelly in all aspects of your daily activities. |
| Remember: You have a right not to talk to someone if you don't want to. |
